Unshackled Moments ~ August 12 ~ The Treatment Is The Same

Today's Unshackled Moment will be a short reminder of an important truth. I need to keep it short because Leah and I are about to leave for a couple of doctor's visits, and I didn't get up early as I should have. Leah is going to see a specialist to determine the cause of one of her symptoms. It could be a separate issue. It could be a symptom of Lupus.

The things is, the treatment is the same either way. So in that sense it doesn't matter. On the other hand, the different specialists aren't sure if she has MS and Lupus or just MS because of overlapping symptoms. This could tell us one way or the other. The treatment for this symptom is the same regardless, but it could effect the direction and course of treatment overall. So it's very important to know to us, never mind that it helps to feel like you know what's going on, even when it's out of your control.

Spiritually, we have it so much better. The Great Physician is the only specialist needed. We don't have to bounce back and forth between practices and specialties of people who are flawed and make mistakes and don't have the knowledge or understanding to make a right diagnosis right away every time. God know. He knows what's wrong. How bad it is. What needs to be done. In that sense, no matter what it going on in our lives that is out of control and causing us to show spiritual symptoms of sickness, the treatment is the same. Run to the Doctor. Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me. Heal me.

But it's still good to know when possible what is wrong. What is going on. Spiritually, it isn't to get a more accurate diagnosis. God doesn't need us to know in order to treat it, whether that treatment is an instant healing or bringing us through it by surrender and obedience. We follow treatment;we get better. We don't need to know more. Except that it helps us to understand what is going on with us. It helps us to recognize that same sickness in others in order to help them recover as well.  It helps us recognize this issue so that in the event of a re-occurrence we can return all the more quickly to the Great Physician and say I'm getting sick in this area again and need treatment.

Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.
- Psalm 139:2324

Go to Him with all your symptoms. Give Him permission to search you and test your heart. Then ask for understanding of the issues and grace to follow all His prescribed treatment. Knowledge and understanding are important for your peace and service. But if you don't have all the answers, don't be afraid. The treatment is all the same. Jesus.
