One driver was in the city heading out to begin the trek up the cliff road when a railway crossing beam began to lower in front of him. Forced to stop and wait with traffic, the driver became more impatient and upset. The reason? There was no train. They were at the crossing long enough for him to get out of his truck and gripe, but there was no hint of a train other than the bar across the road. I knew there must be something up though, because a group of motorcyclists had massed at the crossing and were waiting patiently. That gave me the first hint that something was up. Bikes can easily go around railroad barriers and are quick. I must admit if I can't see a train I am llikely to go through the crossing when on the motorcycle.
Suddenly one horn sounded and the train was there The train flew threw the intersection. There was almost no warning, and it was going very fast. There is no way it could have stopped if someone was in the intersection. There was less than five seconds between the train's appearance and its arrival at the crossing. That's when it hit me.
Sometimes I get that warning from the Spirit. The guard comes down. Don't proceed. The problem isn't with the warning. The problem is when I think I know better. I loot and don't see the problem and the threat. But the Spirit knows what's coming and what I can't see. We need to be like the bikers that respect the warning even if the danger isn't apparent. Sooner or later if we trust our own judgment and ignore the warnings we will be caught on the tracks with nowhere to go when the danger rushes down on us.
God is not trying to frustrate us or ruin our day. The Spirit gives us guidance and direction to protect us and bring us into life. We can never see the entire picture, and I have learned that things go better when I follow His lead.
